More Goodbyes Before Another Dance

Yes we were so cold we had to drive with a blanket...not sure why we didn't have jumpers on!
THE race was done and dusted and it was time to go home.
We had one last thing to do before the farmers returned to their lives on the farm and and Kristy and I, back on the road in Applejack.
We had to have a drink.
The presentations were held at the race course and we continued the rest of the celebrations at the motel.
I was buggered and I knew we had a long drive ahead so I tried to hit the hay early but it felt like I had an hours sleep before getting told to wake up.
The Irish girls went with Eric in the Kenworth but they had to wait at the Shark Bay turnoff for us to pick them up and take them the rest of the way.
I remember feeling really sad on this last stretch of the drive because I had enjoyed every moment with these girls.
When or would we ever see them again?
I was so relieved to find Applejack safe and well in Jamie's shed and when he started straight away I was even happier.
While he was warming up we said our last goodbyes to the crew and the wave of sadness ran through my body again.
We drove out of Shark Bay in silence as we gathered our thoughts and came to realisation of the weekend we had.
A weekend out of the ordinary.
It had gone so quick and the goodbyes were even quicker.

I was tired at the thought of the drive ahead.
We had to get to Perth because we had that bloody hair appointment in the morning!
We spoke to Applejack and apologised for what we were about to do and that we loved him so much for taking us.
A nine hour drive laid ahead of us and although we were quiet and feeling a little down, our spirits soon picked up and became excited for our next destination in Perth.
When growing up I don't remember hearing much about Perth but later in life my curiosity on this city on the other side of Australia grew more and more.
It is strange that I had already driven so far and had already walked on soil so far from hoe but because I moved along little by little everyday, it hadn't felt like such a drastic drive.
It hit me though when I saw the big signs for Perth.
I had covered a great distance and it felt amazing!
I had organised to stay at my friends Bryony and Joey's place and even though she gave me fantastic directions to her house, I still managed to get really lost.
Kristy had my Camps 5 Australia book which had a slight map of the city but nothing to get us to where we were heading.
It was midnight and Applejack was going downhill fast.
He was stalling at the lights and I felt terrible for pushing him any further.
The whole drive from Shark Bay to Perth was really smooth but he was tired.
I turned into a street and Kristy started laughing and quickly told me we were going the wrong way in a one-way street.
Just before I could do a u-turn, Kristy laughed some more and said "I bet that car behind us is the police".
Shit shit!
I turned around and they pulled up beside me.
Before he could speak my mouth flew open and I told him we were really lost and that my kombi was really sick.
He chuckled and asked us where we were heading.
"Follow us" he said.
Thank you angels!
This is where Kristy would write about how bad my driving was and that I should have got breath tested it was so poor.
I had to keep revving Apple's engine to keep him going when we slowed down and I had to keep distance but then speed through the lights so sure enough I ended up running a red light to top it off.
They stopped and the officer told us that we just had to turn a corner, so when the lights turn green we weren't to follow anymore.
This police officer was a little bit cute and must have been nervous or tired because instead of running back to the drivers seat he ran to the passenger side.
It was hilarious.
We couldn't stop laughing but we had to pull ourselves together as we had to wait at the lights in the lane next to them.
It was awkward and instead of keeping my mouth shut I said "yeah my kombi's running great".
Clearly they could hear his engine cutting out.
Those lights couldn't turn green quick enough!
Finally at 1.30am we were in Bryony's drive-way and I didn't even feel like pulling the bed out I was so tired.

Lucky we didn't know what the hairdresser's had install for us in the morning or we would have been really upset!
